Srinagar, May 31 (KNO): A prominent private coaching centre in Srinagar allegedly ‘grills’ its students by putting huge academic pressure on them and also not providing education related material to them despite getting the tuition fees in advance. One of the parents said, “My kid is pursuing non-medical private coaching in Aakash Institute Rawalpora and despite paying the tuition fee in advance, they are not providing study material and other promised stuff to the students.” “Ironically, the students are being grilled and pressured to go for extra classes just to complete the syllabus before time to accommodate another batch of students,” he said. The parent further said that his ward is currently attending classes from 8:45 Am to 1:30. “Many a times he (student) is forced to attend extra classes without any communication to the parents.” “On the other hand, the coaching centre is putting a huge academic burden on by not even giving a weekly off to the students,” he said, adding that the exams are being conducted on Sunday’s and irony is that the security guards are being empowered to take control of the examinations while the staff enjoy weekly off.” The parents alleged that extra academic pressure on the students was leading to the mental stress among the students. The management of Aakash Institute Rawalpora said, “The module is not being provided with all the syllabus at one time. The students have been informed before the admissions that the study material will be provided to them in accordance with the topic taught currently.” On asking about the extra classes, the management said, “Sometimes there may be recovery classes to complete the syllabi on time. In this regard, we have also informed the students at the time of admission.” The management further said that it will look into the matter with regard to alleged empowering of security guards to take control of the examinations Meanwhile sources said that the concerned authorities have provided a time till June-16 to submit the registration forms to all private teaching and tuition centres. “From couple of years, there has been not registration renewal of many coaching centres because of the COVID-19 period but fresh directions have been passed to complete the registrations,” he said. He further said, “Aakash Institute Rawalpora was not even entertaining the reserved quota recommended by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to private tuition centres under 10 percent reserved quota of poor students.” In the meantime, Joint Director Centre at Directorate of School Education (DSEK) in a communique has said, “In continuation to the notification issued on 19-04-2025, the last date for the submission of application forms for registration of coaching, tuition centres along with requisite documents shall be 15-06-2025.
